David Dinkins, the former mayor of New York in the 1990s was the only black man ever get mayoralty before. In a speech, he tells an interesting experience. At that time, Dinkins was driving with his wife. When they were looking at the city, he suddenly saw a man who was working construction worker. Dinkins remembered that the man was ex-boyfriend of his wife. Dinkins then teased his wife, "
You must be proud because now you're in a luxury car with a husband who is a mayor, not with a man who worked as a construction worker on the side of the road." Then Dinkins wife said
, "Hmm .. I guess if I was married to him, then he would be in the car with me, not you."
Proverb says. "
Behind a great man, there is a great woman." This might sound weird, because today's success is not only belong to men alone. But, the point of proverb it was true. Not a problem man or woman, but that behind the success of a person, is due to the participation of the people around him, and especially the role of God, should not be ignored. As illustrated above, sometimes we are stuck like David Dinkins. We think the success is due to our ability alone. Then, we become dehumanize people.
